While I’ve been writing the next promised post about the cons to social media marketing for young entrepreneurs, I have received a few emails from parents looking to start a business.
Some have been about completely unique ideas, but some have asked about using my curriculum to start their own young entrepreneurs program. Most are looking to create an after school program. Their main question: “can I make money teaching entrepreneurship to children”? They want to know all the details:
What should (could) I charge per child?
Where should I hold the classes?
Can I box and sell (essentially licensing) your curriculum to other teachers?
How much money did you make? Honestly.
My question: do you want more content on this topic?
This is a training program for those looking to teach entrepreneurship to children after all. But am I assuming too much? Should my training include how you can turn this program into a business?
The reason all the inquiries are from parents is simply the demographic I cater to. These are the parents of children I teach or have taught in the past. Interestingly I get many reaching out because they heard me on some podcast I did when I launched in 2020.
I watched you in a course my child was taking and thought ‘I wish she coached adults’
The answer: Yes I can expand my training to include units on launching an ed-based business specific to teaching my content.
Yes I want you to rework this curriculum, make it your own and turn it into a business that will make you money.
The key here is ‘make it your own’. The reason this program didn’t fly as an online course was because I took the best part out of the equation; me.
You need to find your own voice and your own unique approach within my content.
As you likely are already aware, online self-directed programs for children are hit and miss - mostly miss. Learning entrepreneurship and starting your own business has the same problem by a multiple of 100. Everyone, adults and children alike, want, need, feedback. Immediate feedback.
My ten-year-old daughter LOVED this class! She said the instructor provided specific information and feedback, and she was very knowledgeable and patient. Thank you so much for a great class!
They need a coach, in person and available as they work through the process of starting a business.
I can show you how to set up an in-person program you can charge money for. Just let me know in the comments or email me. I may turn the whole thing, program and business-in-a-box into a digital download if there’s enough interest.
If however you are looking for business coaching in general I don’t do that. My advice is find someone in your niche, take them for coffee and pick their brain. There are countless online programs and seminars you can tap into and then mold to your needs. Online B schools for solopreneurs are numerous. Find the one that fits your budget and also speaks to your goals. A community in your niche is also very helpful.
If you are in education and want to get personalized support for your business I highly recommend Hope Sparks. I found Hope through a mutual ‘edpreneur’ and she was key in my evolution. Her style of coaching is empowering and her ability to connect people is nothing short of miraculous. Case in point, some of you are here because of Hope. She’s a great place to start.
